The Piano Body

“One day I was walking down the street in Paris and there was a piano hanging, that they were moving into this super high building, trough the window. So I thought to myself:  « What if the piano dropped on me and they could never separate it from my body again? ». You know, a little bit like those people who were shot in the head and they can only survive if nobody removes the bullet? Besides, I’ve always dreamt of playing myself. So I went back to my studio and created ‘The Piano Body’. I’m inspired by traumas : personal and collective. This work is a physical trauma, transposed into a plastic language. In this sculpture, performer and instrument merge into one body. It’s about fantasy. Remember fantasy? We need it more than ever.” – Nuno Roque on ‘The Piano Body’
